General Information

Ralston Public Schools will be offering summer school classes for students entering grades 9-12 beginning May 21, 2012 and ending June 22, 2012(excluding May 28 in observance of Memorial Day).  Benefits of attending summer school include (1) getting a ‘jump start’ on high school and easing the freshman transition (2) having more flexibility in scheduling classes during the regular school year for students in all grades, (3) making up course credits, (4) working ahead toward completing graduation credits.  Each session is equivalent to 5 credits.  All high school summer school classes will be held at Ralston High School.

Registration

Registration for summer school will be available on-line utilizing students’ RKIDS accounts, beginning April 10, 2012.  Those without an RKIDS account will need to come to the guidance office to register with Mrs. Barker.

There will be NO tuition charged this year for current Ralston students! Non-residents may register at a cost of $135 per course or $100 for one A+ session.  Beginning May 11 tuition for non-residents will increase to $160/$110.  Payment for non-resident students must be made on-line by cash or check before a student will be considered officially registered for a course.

Because class sizes are limited, they will be filled on a first-come basis. Students are strongly encouraged to register by May 11, 2012.  Courses and/or sessions for which insufficient registrations have been received by May 11 may be canceled.

No refunds, full or partial, will be made after 3:00 p.m. May 18, 2012

Course Options

Unless otherwise noted, all courses being offered through the summer program meet RHS curriculum standards for graduation credit.

A+ courses are computer-based recovery courses designed by RHS staff to meet the same content standards as courses offered during the school year. Students may enroll in one A+ session and work on one course at a timeduring that session.  If the course is completed with enough time to complete a second course during the same session, the student may continue to a second course.  A+ courses that are incomplete at the end of the summer session will not carry over into the following school year.  A+ courses are pass/fail and do not figure into students’ GPAs.  A+ sessions fill quickly, but a waiting list will be kept once seats are filled.

Students are expected to speak with their guidance counselor about summer school course selections.  Students and parents are responsible for ensuring that the on-line registration form accurately reflects the courses needed.

Additional information about graduation requirements, course prerequisites and course descriptions can be found in the Ralston High School Registration Book, available from counselors or online at http://rpsms.sharpschool.net/ under “Documents.”
