7TH GRADE FAMILYAND CONSUMER SCIENCES

The purpose of 7th gradeFCS is to give students an exploratory look at Family and ConsumerSciences.  During the 7-week class,students will be introduced to various units of study designed to prepare themfor life outside of the classroom in their everyday life.  Students will learn through instruction andmany hands-on activities, as outlined in the course schedule.

Course Outline:

  1. Food and Kitchen Safety (smoothie and pizza lab)
  2. Kitchen Measuring (cookie lab)
  3. Microwave Cooking (apple crisp lab)
  4. Sewing Terms and Safety
  5. Sewing Construction (stuffed football)
  6. Module Rotation

Responsibilities:

  • Always bring your pen/pencil to class.
  • Always have paper in the FCS binder.
  • You must have your planner to leave the room.  Do not ask to use the restroom during instruction time.
  • Always bring an independent novel to class.
  • If you are gone due to illness or being absent, it is your responsibility to make up the work you missed.
  • You are expected to participate in class discussion and activities.

Grading:

Students will be graded on dailywork, tests, and participation.  Gradeswill be based on a point system.

Ram Pride Expectations:

Be Safe

  • Enter and exit in an orderly fashion
  • Keep chair legs on the floor
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself

Be Responsible

  • Follow directions the first time they are given
  • Be prepared and on time for class
  • Hand in your work on time

Be Respectful

  • Treat other people and their property with respect
  • Use appropriate voice and words

CONSEQUENCES

1st offense:  The student will be given a warning.

2nd offense:  The student will be removed frommodule/lab/activity and receive a call home.

3rd offense:  The student will serve a detention before orafter school.

4th offense:  The student will receive a referral to theoffice.

*More severe offenses will betreated as such

 

REWARDS

Ram Pride cards will be given tostudents exhibiting exemplary behavior. Behaviors warranting a ram pride card could include helping a classmate,participating in group discussion, keeping the room clean, etc.  Tokens will be given to students forfollowing expectations of the classroom.
